Here is one of our favorite images from Faaraz and Kamron’s amazing wedding last night at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City. This image was taken in an area about 8 minutes from the hotel in what looks like an entirely different world than Century City and Santa Monica. Stay tuned for the rest.

Jessica and Nathan’s wedding at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles was more than just a wedding. It was a blowout celebration of two people who love and appreciate their family and friends as much as each other. This wedding was so special for us because you could literally feel the love in the room. And Jessica’s dad. Wow. What a fun guy – he was constantly hamming it up all night: making faces in photos, cracking jokes. He was having a blast. I couldn’t help but imagine myself in his shoes – years from now, doing the same when my babies get married.

Morgan and Simon’s love story is a complex one beginning when they were both twelve years old in Hebrew School. Shortly after, there was a sixteen year break in which they both finished high school and college, and entered the professional world. Through Facebook they were reconnected. One year later, on the beaches of Maui, Simon proposed to Morgan. They were in Hawaii attending a wedding, a wedding in which we were the photographers!

From their wedding program: “It took them over 20 years to acknowledge that sometimes, the person you’re looking for is right in front of you, and when you know, you just know.” Allie and I can certainly relate to that!

They began their wedding day preparations at the Millennium Biltmore hotel in downtown Los Angeles where Morgan’s father surprised the couple with the keys to the Presidential Suite. The Presidential Suite is a a two-floor complex, complete with several bedrooms, library, sitting rooms and a kitchen. There is even an old elevator connecting the two floors. Such a perfect environment for their portraits, first look and what we call the “Vanity Fair Cover Shot.” The Vanity Fair shot is a group shot in which the entire bridal party surrounds the couple, each person in a different pose. (look below). Later we moved to Cafe Pinot where they were married outside on the grounds next to the Los Angeles Central Library. Their reception was held on the steps of the library, next to the pond and Cafe Pinot. It was a beautiful evening, made even more so by these two beautiful people. Morgan and Simon, thanks for including us on your wedding day.

When Allie and I approached the front door of the Millenium Biltmore Los Angeles, the hotel where Brittany and Keith were getting ready for their wedding, we mistakenly bumped into the back of Keith. On the surface, this incident would not appear to be unusual or extraordinary except for the fact that Keith was carrying several target practice sheets of cartoon bad guys that were riddled with bullet holes. When we asked him if he was nervous or anxious about getting married, he just looked at us and laughed and said no. He then continued on, leaving us in a noxious cloud of gunpowder. From that moment on, Allie and I knew we were in for a special evening. And it was.

From their desire for outstanding and untraditional wedding portraits, to their choice of the Oviatt Penthouse for their wedding venue, to Brittany’s amazing cocktail style wedding dress, and to their selection of Amber Gustafson of Amber Events as their coordinator. All of these elements combined for a magical evening on the Oviatt Penthouse rooftop.

Special thanks to Mariah Nicole for her outstanding makeup, she is one of the best. And again, to Amber, who is also one of the best.

I think Allie and I can both agree that this is one of our all time favorite wedding dresses…

Carrie and Michael were married at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, the most perfect place for a couple who adore travel, all things vintage and each other. This was a really special wedding in that Carrie’s mom handmade many of the art-deco inspired details including the menus and table cards. She even made little train tickets for each guest’s place card, and then placed them all in a vintage suitcase. Super cool. Our favorite detail was the guest book, or shall we say, guest suitcase. Instead of writing a note in a book, the guests got to write their sentiments on a real vintage postcard, and place it in an old suitcase.

Other visual delights were Carrie and Michael’s vintage-inspired wedding dress and suit, the old Packard Super 8, and of course, our old friend: Union Station. Nowhere in Southern California is there a venue with this much character, history, grandiosity and visual appeal. A perfect place to be married for two people who cherish the past, and look forward to their future. When Allie and I sat down with Sami and she told us that she and Sean had dated for over sixteen years,  we were floored. Wow—what an amazing story. We were so thankful and honored to be the ones to document the culmination of such a long courtship. Our day started at the eclectic SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills where we were given special access to photograph in the White Room, lobby and other unique areas of the hotel. We then traveled across town to Vibiana for the ceremony and reception. Sami and Sean spared no expense: from the florals and linens to the sushi, traditional Persian foods and dessert; to the entertainment – it was an extravagant night.

I wrote about this before and I must repeat it again: there is nothing like a Persian wedding. When Sami walked down the aisle, there were over 300 guests on their feet cheering and clapping. When they made their grand entrance, the dancing lasted for several hours into the night, a real marathon. When I got home late that night, my new socks had holes in them from the rigors of jumping up and down for hours, photographing all of the dancing.

Our clients are some of the most special people, and Sami was no exception. Throughout the entire twelve hour day, she seemed as if she was more concerned about our well-being than herself: making sure we were eating, hydrating, etc. Who does that? More, what bride on her wedding day does that? Thanks Sami! We love you!

Jon and Helen’s wedding at the magnificent Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills was not only a marriage of two people, but a marriage of two families and a celebration of their two cultures. Jon and his family are Filipino and Helen is Korean. The evening started on Jon’s side with a traditional Filipino-Catholic mass held outdoors in the Four Season’s Wetherly Gardens. After the mass, the evening switched to a Korean theme as Jon and Helen rushed up to their suite to change into traditional Korean attire for the Pyebaek Ceremony.

The Pyebaek Ceremony is a Korean tradition in which the newlyweds are introduced to their new families. It begins with a long bow in front of the parents, and, after some sake and soju, the parents impart their wisdom and experience to the couple. It ends with the parents throwing chestnuts and jujubes at the bride which she has to catch with her skirt. Helen caught over twenty of the projectiles which symbolizes the amount of children Helen and Jon are predicted to have. Good luck with that!

It was such a privilege to photograph the Pyebaek, reminding me that one of the more interesting perks of  my work is the witnessing of such a diverse range of multi-cultural religious customs and ceremonies. Helen and Jon, thanks for the privilege!
