Ishani and Ram are Sri Lankan whose families are from opposite sides in the recent and brutal 26-year long Sri Lankan civil war. As you can imagine, their courtship and wedding was not understood and supported by all. Nevertheless, the families got together and planned the traditional 600 guest South Asian wedding at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles. For Ishani and Ram, it was incredibly important that their union was celebrated in an intimate setting with their closest friends (who are their family) and relatives. So what did they do? They surprised this group with a small wedding just for them on the night before the big day! This small group of loved ones thought they were at a pre-wedding cocktail party. That is, until later that evening when the main doors were opened to reveal Ishani and Ram’s secret Carondelet House wedding. Surprise!
To say it was emotional is an understatement. Part One of their wedding will feature our favorites from the Carondelet House. Part Two will feature their big South Asian wedding at Vibiana.
